"The Best Programme the BBC have made in years" - The Sun
Based on the classic '60s detective series of the same name, Vic Reeves takes on the role of Marty Hopkirk, a ghost who can only be seen by his former colleague, Jeff Randall (Bob Mortimer).
The new production brilliantly maintains the spirit (!) of the original, whilst bringing it up to date with some state of the art special effects and the introduction of such brilliant characters as Wyvern, Marty's ghostly mentor, played by Tom Baker (Little Britain, Doctor Who).
Written and produced by 'The Fast Show''s Charlie Higson, who also appears in every episode as a different character, this fast-paced drama combines moments of high comedy and thrilling action with cameos from such luminaries as David Tenant, Hugh Laurie, Steven Berkoff, David Walliams, Derek Jacobi and Paul Whitehouse.
Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk are detective partners who don't let a little thing like murder get in the way of an investigation. Even if the death in question is a little close to home.
The action begins a week before Marty's wedding to Jeannie Hurst (Emillia Fox, 'Silent Witness') as he and Jeff are hired by famous artist Gordon Stylus (David Tennant, 'Dr Who') to watch over Stylus' emotionally unstable wife, Annette.
Unfortunately during the course of the assignment, Marty is hit by a car, apparently driven by Annette, and the two plunge over a cliff to their deaths.
As a grieving Jeff and Jeannie investigate how Marty died, so their lives too become endangered. Luckily for Jeff, he is helped by the ghost of his dead partner who, it transpires, is cursed to walk the earth for the duration of Jeff's life.
Needless to say, solving the crime is just the beginning. With Marty's supernatural powers proving an invaluable help, and Jeannie now a fully fledged (if unsuspecting) member of the team, it's soon business as usual for Randall & Hopkirk...,
Mad ghosts, mummified bodies, dastardly dealings at a boarding school and experiments that mysteriously change a person's gender; no case is too complex - or too bizarre - for these most unconventional of super sleuths.
