Mr. Holland Opus
De DVD is van uitstekende kwaliteit en brengt een boeiend verhaal, waarin levensidealen en werkelijkheid aanvankelijk botsen. Wanneer de hoofdpersoon, een componist en muziekleraar aan een middelbare school, zijn levenssituatie met onverwachte wendingen begint te accepteren, ontdekt hij de verborgen mogelijkheden die in zijn gegeven levenssituatie schuilgaan. Als hij zich niet langer laat frustreren door zijn onvervulde verwachtingen, opent zich een nieuwe wereld voor hem waarin hij zijn passie voor muziek weet over te dragen op zijn leerlingen en zijn doofgeboren zoon. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans", zie John Lennon ooit in een interview. Deze woorden geven het spanningsveld weer waarin zowel het leven van de hoofdrolspeler , maar ook dat van ons verkeert. Is het toevallig dat de muziekleraar tegen het eind van de film voor zijn zoon tijdens een muziekuitvoering in de aula van de school een ontroerende vertolking geeft van Lennons "Beautiful Boy" ?
